Info & Rules

European Onewheel League 2026

Season 2026 qualifications start in April with Wacky Wheels in Hungary and will end in August with the Danish Onewheel Games in Denmark.

The best riders of the season will be qualified to the European Onewheel League Finals in Portugal in October!

Racing Regulations

Categories

We have the following categories in the EOL:

  • Open

  • Women (at birth)

  • Groms (14 and younger)

Riders entering an age restricted category must be that age on the 1st of January of the year in which the race season takes place to qualify.

No rider shall change their racing category during a season.

Number of riders required

Regardless of the chosen qualification method, no adult category shall happen if there’s less than 3 riders competing in it.

If an adult rider’s registered category is not held at an event due to insufficient entries, the rider may compete in the Open category for that event. The rider remains eligible to compete in their preferred registered category at future events and may accumulate points separately in both category rankings. Any rider that chooses initially to race in the Open category shall not race in another category during the same season.

Qualification methods

  • Time Trials (TT)

    • In the Time Trials format, riders complete two individual timed runs using an electronic timing system accurate to 0.01 seconds. If both runs are on the same course, the fastest time counts; if they are on different courses, both times are added together. Riders start at minimum 30-second intervals and may overtake by clearly calling their side. A backup stopwatch system is mandatory in case of electronic failure, and re-runs are granted if timing systems fail completely or if a rider stops to assist an injured competitor. Final rankings are based on recorded times.

  • Groups and Points (GAP)

    • In the Groups and Points format, riders compete in two qualification rounds in small groups of 3–5 riders, earning points based on finishing position. After the first round, riders are redistributed into new groups according to their results to avoid repeating matchups and to balance competition. Points from both rounds are added together, and riders are ranked by total score, with tie-breakers applied if necessary.

Special notes:

  • During qualifications by TT, any rider has the right to overtake other riders by saying "On your left" or "On your right". In this situation, the rider in front shall let the other overtake by their called path. During the heads up race no rider should ask for permission to overtake.

  • The GAP method can take significantly longer to complete than the TT, so any event that wishes to use it should plan accordingly and make sure their schedule allows it. If there’s limited time the event shall have a limit in the number of riders allowed to race.

  • Alternative qualification methods may be implemented with previous EOL Approval

Breakdown of Points

Individual event results

In a standart race, there will be two options to determine the top 16 or 32 riders, these being either 2 TT runs with electronic time tracking or the GAP system. After the qualifications, these riders will be divided into brackets and will race heads up in groups of 4 (or 8 people).

If time allows, the event organizer can set up lower bracket finals for the eliminated riders, if there is no time to run the lower bracket finals, the positions will be determined by their qualifying round results.

There are two options for those rankings:

OPTION 1 - Lower brackets

If there is time at the event, races will be set up to determine position 5 to 16.

In the quarter finals there are 8 people eliminated.

  • 4th places will race each other

  • 3rd places will race each other

In the semi-finals all eliminated riders will race each other.

OPTION 2 - Qualification round results

The ranking for positions 5 to 16 will be determined by the qualifying round results.

  • The results only between 4th places will be compared first and then only between 3rd places to have the correct ranking.

Alternative race formats may be implemented with EOL approval.

Points Total

All types of onewheel boards are allowed to compete together in the races.

There will be an overall classification for each of the categories at each event awarding points for the official EOL ranking.

A total of 3 results from any rider will be counted for the ranking. If a rider doesn’t attend 3 races, all their results will count. If a rider competes in more than 3 races, only their best 3 results will be counted.

If there is a tie in points, a 4th result from those racers will be the tiebreaker. If both racers do not have a 4th result, then the mean place will be calculated for their 4th result.

If none of the previous options can be applied, a race in which the tied riders participated simultaneously will be the tiebreaker, and the rider with the highest position in that race will take the top position.

At the end of the season, the top 3 riders of the EOL ranking in both adult categories are offered tickets (non-transferable) for next season's events according to their ranking spot. The winner of each category will earn a seat on the EOL Committee during the following season. The number of tickets are decided by the EOL Board each season.

The European Champions from each category are the winners of the EOL Finals. They will be assigned a separate prize package and a seat in the EOL Committee during the following season.

EUROPEAN ONEWHEEL LEAGUE FINALS

The European One Wheel League Finals is the final race of the season where the best riders in each category will compete in heats of 4 riders to decide the EOL Champions. The initial heats of the EOL Finals Race are defined by either the EOL ranking or time trials done on the day before the race.

Qualification methods:

  • Throughout the season, any rider that wins an EOL race will secure a spot in the European One Wheel League Finals.

  • The winner of the EOL Underground will receive an automatic seed for the EOL Finals.

  • On the spot wildcard.

  • The remaining finalists will be the highest ranked riders on the EOL ranking who do not have a guaranteed ticket yet.

If a rider wins multiple qualification spots in one season, more riders will be selected from the EOL ranking to compete in the Finals.

After DOG in Denmark, all the remaining available spots will go to the highest ranked riders on the EOL ranking who do not have a spot from an event.

The European One Wheel League Finals will happen on October 3rd during the OWA event in Portugal (Riders who qualify for this race will need to purchase the event ticket to participate).

Rules and Regulations

Safety gear

All participants in the official EOL races shall wear a helmet and gloves or wrist guards at all times when on the race course, even during warm up, practice laps or just attempting features. If they are not complying with this requirement they shall be excluded from the race. All riders are responsible for bringing their own safety gear. Event organizers may choose to set a higher standard for minimum safety equipment, which shall be communicated to riders in advance.

As the races can go fast and have various obstacles, other safety equipment like a full face helmet, back protector, elbow protection, knee pads and shin guards should be used to have maximum protection in the races.

All pieces of equipment shall be properly secured. Any rider whose equipment falls off during the race may be disqualified.

Helmet regulation

  • The minimum certification for helmets used in racing is EN 1078, CPSC 1203, AS/NZS 2063 or KC. Helmets with certification EN 1385 (soft shell helmets) are for water sports and shall not be accepted on EOL races.

  • All competitors shall wear a protective helmet at all times when on course, including practice, timed runs, and head to head stages.

  • While riding, helmets shall be properly secured at all times. Any rider whose helmet falls off during a race may be disqualified.

  • Helmets shall be in good condition, free from cracks, deformation, or unauthorised modification, and used in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.

  • The retention system shall be securely fastened whenever the rider is on course.

  • Helmets shall bear a visible and legible marking certifying compliance with one of the recognised international standards listed in this section.

  • Officials may refuse the start of any rider presenting a helmet that does not clearly display one of the approved standards or shows evidence of damage or modification.

Helmets certified with ASTM F1952 and NTA 8776 are highly recommended.

Riders’ Rules

  • All riders must be able to control their board at all times and ride safely. This includes starting, stopping, standing still, and dismounting.  The event organizer or an EOL Official has the authority to disqualify a rider who they decide cannot safely control their board.

  • No “off-board” controllers or devices (e.g. remote tilt controller) will be allowed in EOL sanctioned races, any rider found using one of these devices will be disqualified.

  • During qualifications by TT, any rider has the right to overtake other riders by saying "On your left" or "On your right". In this situation, the rider in front shall let the other overtake by their called path. During the bracket stage, no rider shall ask for permission to overtake.

  • Riders shall always attempt the features as they were intended (shown during track inspection). Failure to make a valid attempt may result in disqualification.

  • Any intentional form of physical contact to gain advantage may result in disqualification.

  • Incidental contact that does not result in a clear advantage or endanger another rider may be considered a racing incident at the discretion of the race jury.

  • Anyone found to be tampering with other riders' equipment (whether it’s safety gear, changing settings on other riders’ boards or any other objects that belong to another rider) may be disqualified and banned from future EOL events.

  • Anyone found to be tampering with the race track itself, may be disqualified and banned from future EOL events.

  • If a rider crashes or dismounts for whatever reason, they should always do their best to stay out of the way while getting back on the board.

  • Riders who leave the track for any reason must re-enter at the point they exited or at the nearest safe location as directed by race officials. Gaining an advantage by leaving the track may result in disqualification.

  • No rider should attempt features during a race that they think they can’t do properly/safely.

  • Touching/leaning into track objects or features like hay bails or posts is allowed unless otherwise stated by the event itself during the racers' briefing. However, if a touch results in the track being altered (e.g. making a hay bail fall over) it may result in disqualification.

  • All riders should have their safety gear and clothing items properly secured during the race. Any rider that has a piece of equipment fall off during a race may be disqualified.

  • The minimum certification for helmets used in racing is EN 1078. Helmets with certification EN 1385 (soft shell helmets) are for water sports and shall not be accepted on EOL races.

  • No rider shall compete while under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or any substance that may impair judgment or reaction time.

  • Wrist/hand protection must be worn at all times whilst racing.

  • Riders must be on their board when crossing the finish line.

  • All riders must sign any waiver required by the race organizer/venue.

  • Participants must adhere to the EOL Code of Conduct.

  • Participants are chiefly responsible for their well-being and safety.

  • Riders shall follow instructions, flags, and signals from the race jury, marshals and event staff at all times. Failure to comply may result in disqualification.

Failure to comply with any of these rules may result in disqualification, suspension or ban from EOL events.

Code of Conduct

Trail etiquette

Leave no trace

Be sensitive to the dirt beneath you. Avoid spinning your tire, especially when trying hills too steep for you. Fix any divots created and pack them down tightly with your heel.

Wet and muddy trails are more vulnerable to damage than dry ones. When the trail is soft, consider other riding options. If your tire slides at all, it is too wet to be riding.

Stay on existing trails; do not create new ones and do not cut switchbacks.

Be sure to pack out at least as much as you pack in. Leave a trail better than you found it. And absolutely no littering!

Treat kids and animals with caution

Animals are easily startled by an unannounced approach, a sudden movement, or a loud noise. Kids can dart around and change direction without warning. Give dog walkers and parents enough notice and space to adjust to you. When passing horses, use special care and follow directions from the horseback riders (ask if uncertain).

Running cattle and disturbing wildlife are serious offenses and can create dangerous situations.

Board charging safety

Li-ion batteries can catch fire and explode while charging, charging areas should be somewhere people can see and not left unattended far away. Event spaces should also consider having a metal fire box or sand pit or somewhere to throw a smoking board into if in a close quarters venue, or have a dedicated open space near the charging area that is left clear if it's a more open space low wildfire risk venue.

Complaints

You have a complaint at the event

If you experience any discomfort that implies a dangerous hazard you should inform the race jury. The jury members will adhere to your complaint and will speak to all parties involved. The jury has to make and communicate a clear decision to all parties involved.

You have a complaint about the EOL race after the event

Send your complaint to europeanonewheelleague@gmail.com and it will be processed by the EOL Committee. You will get a reply by email from one of the EOL officials.

Final Authority & Interpretation

In the event of any unforeseen loophole, ambiguity, or misinterpretation of these racing standards, the EOL Officials shall have the final authority to make on-the-spot decisions during an event.

Any disputes, clarifications, or rule interpretations arising outside of an event will be reviewed and resolved by the EOL Board. All decisions made by the respective authorities will be final and binding.

Event participants agree to abide by the following:

  • Display high standards of behavior that promote a positive image for our sport.

  • Strive to maintain a sense of self-control and dignity at all times.

  • Encourage others to participate and learn.

  • Take responsibility for my own ability and make educated choices about when, where, and how to participate. Obtain the proper training and continue to improve skills where needed.

  • Compete fairly and with respect for fellow athletes, officials, venues and equipment. Honor event rules and participate in the spirit of the competition. Be gracious in victory and defeat.

  • Cooperate with medical professionals and respect their assessment of my ability to continue competing or training.

  • Refrain from violence, offensive language and insults, harassment, and public criticism of fellow athletes, officials or volunteers (especially when addressing the media), and discourage others from the same.

  • In the event of a conflict, defuse the situation if it is appropriate to do so, and/or notify an organizer to help achieve a peaceful resolution.

  • Public drones must be flown at least 5 meters above the ground and must follow all local drone laws. Anyone who violates these rules may be removed from the event. Event approved drone pilots may fly below 5 meters if they have permission from the event organizer. Additional rules can be discussed and agreed upon between the organizer and the pilot.

Event organizers agree to abide by the following:

  • Treat all riders, vendors, volunteers and spectators fairly within the context of their activity, regardless of gender, place of origin, color, sex, religion, political belief or economic status. In competitions, I will retain judges and announcers who exhibit these same qualities and who bring appropriate knowledge/expertise to the judges’ panel.

  • Make sure equipment and facilities are safe and match the athlete’s ages and abilities. In the case of minors, communicate and cooperate with the athlete’s parents or legal guardians, involving them in management decisions pertaining to their child’s participation.

  • Invest in participants’ safety by retaining an appropriate contingent of first responders and/or medical professionals in case of a crash or injury. If an incident occurs, I will ensure that the participant does not continue competing or training until they’ve been assessed by medical staff and will defer to the expertise of said staff if they advise the rider should not continue to participate.

  • Inform attendees about expected standards of behavior to maintain positive relations with host venues and communities, and enforce/reiterate these standards if any issues arise during the event.
